How GeoSports works

The basics

  • Five sports trivia questions every day.
  • For each one, tap the spot on the globe where you think the answer is.
  • The closer your tap is to the real spot, the more points you get.
  • New questions drop every day at midnight Eastern Time.
  • Everyone plays the same five questions on the same day, so scores are directly comparable.

How each tap is scored

  • Every question is worth up to 100 points.
  • Score depends only on how many miles your tap is from the right answer.

  • The curve is harsh at first — being 500 miles off costs you 30 points.
  • It softens at long distances, so a continental miss isn’t totally crushing.

The colors and emojis

  • The dot color you see (in your score, on the leaderboard, in shared posts) tells you how good that single tap was.

Why later questions are worth more

  • Stakes rise as the round progresses.

  • A perfect day is 100 + 100 + 200 + 300 + 300 = 1,000 points.

The leaderboard

  • You’ll see the top 50 scores for the day.
  • Your row is always pinned at the top, even if you’re not in the top 50.
  • Your name comes from your email — the part before the @, trimmed to the first seven characters.
  • If two players would have the same name, the second one gets a number added (e.g. frank, frank2).
  • Browse the past 14 days using the arrows on the leaderboard page.

Streaks

  • Your streak counts how many days in a row you’ve played.
  • Skip a day and it resets to zero.
  • Replaying old days for fun doesn’t affect your streak — only today’s game counts.

Your stats page

  • Visit /me to see a 7-day chart of your daily scores.
  • Each bar is colored by how you did that day — same tier system as individual taps, just scaled to a 1,000-point daily max.

Tips

  • Pinch to zoom, drag to rotate the globe.
  • One tap = your guess. There’s no “submit” button.
  • If you change your mind mid-tap, drag a little before you let go — small movements are read as a swipe, not a guess.
  • Refresh mid-round if you need to — your progress is saved.
